Cheering up England after the rugger
Still not a bad part of the world, this sceptic isle, as far as current sporting prowess goes....... Consider: Hamilton on top of the pile in F1; Englland retaining the ashes in cricket; Froom winner of the Tour de France; fantastic performances on track and fiield by our athletes in last Olympics and World Athletics; Davies Cup finalists.......ok, bit of licence there with some GB'ers and a Saffer, but you get my drift. ....and we can still smash the Aussies with oval ball next week.

And not to forget the top London team in the Prem.

"Banana Republic, Septic Isle
Screamin' in the sufferin' sea, sounds like cryin'"

First line from Banana Republic by The Boomtown Rats. Written before Bob Geldof was deified.

It was a good game, and it's only rugby.

'Sceptic' Isle is quite brilliant though.

Sad to see, Sven, that you've become a pale imitation of LOLmas on here in recent months.

Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
On a thread about English sporting levels I was just pointing out that Andy Murray is Scottish and Chris Froome is Kenyan.
Not sure what that has to do with trying to identify Australia with one particular sport ..... they play lots of sports there.
Definitely not at their peak in rugby union or cricket though 'shit' is a bit harsh.
I think you should apologise ....... to England who are ranked behind them in both sports including all 3 cricket formats with 3 times the population.

His parents are English. He's Kenyan, he should be competing for them. He's never lived in the UK and probably has no intention of ever living in the UK.

Why would any Aussie be bitter when England have just lost to Wales?

Especially when Wales now only have about 3 fit players left before their game against Australia, which gives Australia a very good chance of now getting through.

Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
A bitter Aussie.....well I never

When your shit at cricket you claim to be a rugby nation. When your shit at rugby its back to cricket again. Now your shit at both I suppose your choice of game is rugby`s league format (exclusively played in oz & the county of Yorkshire as its a fucking mongs game)

Stick to your Aussie rules as its the only fucking thing you useless cunts are likely to be winning in the near future. Better yet flood your national sides with foreigners (not like you don't already have pacific islanders, European`s & Asians to currently do your bidding right across the board)

His parents are both English. No argument needed as it's a fact

Don't suppose this will interest many, but England's Tai Woffinden will shortly become the World Speedway Champion for the second time.

Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
If Kenya had asked you to represent them at sport would you have done it? I suspect not.
I don't know Froome, I just get the impression he is English for financial reasons.
Which he is perfectly entitled to do.

Sven

I was born in Kenya of English patents, grew up in East Africa, just like Froome. I'm as passionate a supporter of England in all sports as anyone. Where you are born is irrelevant. It is whether you feel English and identify yourself with England. If Froome does that then he is fine by me. If not I still want him winning for England!

Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
From Wikipedia:

Froome was born on 20 May 1985 in Nairobi, Kenya,[7] to mother Jane and father Clive, a former hockey player who represented England at under-19 level.[8] His mother's parents emigrated from Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England to Kenya to run a crop farm.[4][9][10] Froome has two older brothers, Jonathan and Jeremy, who went to Rugby School in Warwickshire, England.

HE'S A FUCKIN' MUZZA

"Sceptic Isle"? Hahaha... I hope that was a deliberate mistake

Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
I think if you want to represent a country the very minimum requirement should be that you've lived in that country before.

Sven Roeder 6:13 Sun Sep 27
Re: Cheering up England after the rugger
He was born in Kenya, grew up in Africa and as far as I know has had no further connection with England bar a financial one with Sky Racing.
Just strikes me as an African
Albeit a tax dodging Monaco resident one.

He is even less English than Kevin Pietersen which is saying something.
Other African born players like Andrew Strauss and Matt Prior are obviously English men born there by circumstance

I just think it's small minded to deny Africa a Tour de France winner.
